Where is Aldie?

I recently purchased a used All-Terrain Vehicle for use around the farm. Well, it might have some pleasure aspects to it as well, but primarily to be used as a farm vehicle so that I can write it off on taxes.
At any case, I took it over to the Honda dealer in Winchester which is roughly 30 miles away. I gave my name and address to the young man at the service desk. When I said the town was Aldie, he looked at me and said, "What State is that"? WHAT????!!!!
Now let me explain Aldie to you. It is a small unincorporated town that sits on one of the main East-West routes from Winchester to Washington, DC. You can not avoid going through it and it is most well known for its Historical Grist Mill and a very narrow stone bridge. Of which, large trucks must yield to oncoming traffic so as not to damage the truck or the bridge.
I was almost offended to think that people today do not know local geography and was very tempted to ask him what planet he was from. Better yet, I should have asked him what grammar school he attended as I would need to check his education records to ensure he passed the 4th grade.
When I go back to pick up my ATV tomorrow, I am taking a small gift with me. A Map.

Aldie.. Aldie... I do like that word. One could always use it like this.. "I'm away oot Aldie", then not return until the wee hours. You told them you'd be gone.. Get it? Aldie, Allday.....

Posting this as Anon...

Very funny quip. I look forward to hearing you say that one after a few pints of cider!
Here is an interesting link to the namesake of our little town. http://www.mercermillions.info/places/aldie_castle.htm

I typed this earlier but blogger was down. I checked out that link, very interesting, so then I googled the Aldie in Aberdeenshire and found out very little, mapquest showed it quite near to a place I lived actually. Anyway, because google shows very little, I'm thinking Aldie in Aberdeenshire is more an area, there's probably a pub there though, possibly called the 'Aldie Arms'. Not that I'm a pub expert..

Oh 1st L don't be so modest. I have read your blogs and I think you are a bit of a pub expert.
I think that our sleepy town needs an "Aldie Arms". Should this be your next endeavour???

Aldie Arms Hotel. Sounds grand! I'm now going to take it upon my weesel to try all the local ciders and see which ones are good enough to stock ;) Perhaps you could give the whiskys a trial run...
